I remember this cat as an artist to look out for in XXL about 2 years ago, I blew him off has just another no-name rapper (Rich Boy graced the same pages as well, where the bird chest dude go? and don't give that remix to "Paper planes" either). But the other day I was tuning in on Shade 45 and I heard "I'll be in the sky" was like "DAAAMMMNNN"!!! Now I can't get T.I's "On top of the World" out my ear for shit but I'm not complaining. So I moseyed over to his myspace to right click and save a few flicks and finally listen to "Cloud 9". I recall reading the XXL article about him and this song was mentioned. Is it better to fake it til you make it? When my aunt puts on her "face"(makeup) and steps out, her life is seemingly prefect: strong and stable marriage, amazing job and beautiful children. But behind closed doors, when her happy face is wiped clean, she carries the weight of the world on her shoulders: nieces and nephews strayed from the lighted path, a middle child willing to die to be accepted, a great job with no chance of advancement- just a pay raise and a crumbling marriage. Her marriage didn't have a strong base in the beginning (she gave the man a choice between married life or life without her after 2 years, deep huh?) She has come to me a number of times about her sacred unity. My question is, is it better to fake a happy life vs being alone? If so, when will she "make it"? I leave you with two things to chew over: 1) marriage doesn't guarantee a happily ever after and 2) Divorce doesn't occur when people don't understand each other anymore, but that they've only begun to.

So one clear Friday morning, I started my day by checking my fave blogs and was very excited when I checked Necole Bitchie, the Mother to all sites that gossip blog. Well there was a post from the The Fly Guy and I was hella excited (yes you read correct, I said hella) to be engulfed in his intellectual thoughts on relationships. The Fly Guy is something like a urban love guru for those who may not know. This entry was entitled "We all lie in relationships" and lies that women tell were 1. I'm not mad, 2. I had sex with X amount of people and 3. I don't care how much money you have. That last one didn't sit too well with me. Where in the hell did this come from? If I could just go to the 40's and 50's, weren't men suppose to be breadwinners? Wasn't the female role to be a housewife who keeps the house in tip top, rears the children and keep the Breadwinner well fed and f**k? Excuse the choice words. But still hear me out, the concept is still very much alive today. But let me get back to the idea that women are always in safety goggles, steel toe heels with pick ax in tow. Maybe these women are not looking for love but security. With a big enough back account, anyone can love someone. Maybe these women feel that true love is dead so why not get a unlimited spending piece of plastic to slide into a "In" season bag to carry on a arm dipped in diamonds. But my best guess would have to be because we are expected to. I'm a Freshmen in college. One day last semester, my professor let us have a little fun. The sexes split up and we had to stereotype each other. For us women, we got the usual: emotional, gossipy, desperate to get married and so on. My professor commented on a stereotype that popped up that I wasn't expecting: gold diggers. She said that that one stereotype has become more common these past few years. My thoughts are that we live in a culture and society were what a man can bring to the table are equivalent to his worth. Is it me or don't men care about the Green Elixer just as much? So aren't men just gold digger seekers? When men attempt to spark up a convo with a woman, he talks about what he has, what he drives, what he does and all that he can give or do for her. Is that all you can bring to the table of relationship? No convo? No laughs? Just a few new clothes or cars. Is that what relationships are based upon now? I'm attempting to stray away from stereotype people. I can only speak for myself not the entire female race because we all desire seemingly different things. I don't care about money in a relationship, and I truly mean that. Wasn't Destiny Child have women declaring Independence some odd years back? I'm not looking for a money sign in a Benz. I will gladly take that brother man on the city bus because I'm sitting right behind him. I want someone with goals and a plan. If your heart desires to write or to be a lowly social worker working for the state like me plan to, I'm all for it! Like Langston Hughes wrote " Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly".
So in the end, in a sense the housewife and the breadwinners names have evolved to Gold Digger and Gold Digger Seeker. I'm not saying that the Fly Guy called women in general gold diggers because there are some in my sex but some men love it. The Gold Digger is wifey, she's a trophy, your worth seems to sky rocket if you got one. It's no different when some men make it in Hollywood, they "upgrade" (?) to a white or an island beauty= no different.

A lot of people (mainly other bloggers) think that Christina Millian is just some pretty girl who is somehow mistaken for a real artist. I'm here to openly defend her! Her last album, "So Amazin' (pic via myspace) was shockingly amazing. I won't lie, I've never listened to any of her other albums and I bought "So Amazin" on a whim after I had heard "Gonna tell everybody" once and needed another hit. The album had a handful of other hits buried away under media attention on her relationship drama and being dropped from her label. "Gonna tell everybody", "Who's gonna ride?", "Foolin" and "Ya'll ain't nothing" are the songs that this fashion forward woman bared her tiny soul and I feel her pain, for my own personal reasons. Because she was so open when they were written, a true artist was on showcase. Those unheard tracks have just won her a fan but "Foolin" and "Gonna tell everybody" got her a stan. With those two songs, you get a inside glimpse to the reason behind her and Nick's demise. In summary, she's beyond pretty with a body I would kill for but please don't stamp her as a non talent pop tart, the girl's got skillz!

I been speeding through the fast lane trying to finally get a glimpse at Estelle's new video and I'll be damned if that wasn't a waste of $4 a gallon gas! Let me give the postive first, I am loving the Amanda Diva and the always fierce Christan cameos! I could have done without the Kelly Rowland glimpse however. Kelly's acting skills don't go beyond music videos. Was that mean? If you think it was, think back to the "Seat Filler" movie full of D-listed celebs (can we call them that?) where Kelly played dress up and lived out her career as if she were Mrs.Carter (beyonce'for the nonknowing).I found this movie on the 3 for $5 rack at Wal-Mart and needed a third movie so...! I pop in the DVD when I need a nap. Just so you know, I like to sleep with the tv on during the daytime, so the DVD serves a great purpose in my DVD collection. Let me get off Beyonce's background and back to Estelle....to sum up my thoughts: the video has a Beyonce-Rhianna look/feel and the song is very Lauryn Hill and those artist don't mix.
