"Five residents of Gainesville, FL have filed a $10 million suit against rapper Plies over a 2006 shooting at a local club. According to the Gainesville Sun, the suit—filed in Alachua County civil court on Tuesday (April 8)—alleges negligence on the part of the rapper, his label Slip-N-Slide Records and the 238 West nightclub. On July 2, 2006 members of the Fort Meyers based rapper’s entourage drew and fired weapons inside the club shortly before closing time. Plies and four other people were subsequently arrested. The rapper later plead no contest to a charge of possession of a concealed weapon. He was not accused of firing his gun inside the venue. Five people were injured during the shooting incident. Those victims have retained attorney Christopher Chestnut to represent them in the suit. Plies’ attorney, Robert Rush has not seen the lawsuit, but told the Sun that it sounded misdirected. “If they’re suing Mr. Washington, they’re suing the wrong person,” Rush said. “He does not have legal liability. It is not an entertainer’s job to provide security for a club where the entertainer is performing.”
